Attached is the announcement and application for the Adult Recovery Peer Specialist Training in Sarasota Feb 25 – Mar 1.

 

 

Description:  We are pleased to announce the upcoming training for Peer Specialists as part of the initial step toward receiving certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist-Adult.  The training will be held at First Step in Sarasota, FL Feb 25 – March 1, 2013. The training is an initiative of Central Florida Behavioral Network with partnership from the Florida Department of Children and Families. Central Florida Behavioral Network is an approved education provider for the Florida Certification Board.

 

Certified Recovery Peer Specialists (CRPS) work in a variety of settings both within and outside of the mental health system. The presence of one CRPS in the lives of Florida’s consumers is a powerful statement of belief in the reality of recovery and the power of peer support to aid in recovery. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has endorsed peer support services which will allow Florida to access a steady funding mechanism for peer support services.

 

Training graduates are eligible to sit for a certification examination given by the Florida Certification Board. Other requirements for certification are found at the Florida Certification Board website www.flcertificationboard.org (Click on “Certifications” in the left sidebar; click on “Certified Recovery Peer Specialist” at the top; scroll down to “CRPS Application Portfolio” and click).

 

Presenters:  Presenters from Birdsong Consulting will conduct the training. Both presenters are Certified Recovery Peer Specialists.

 

Audience:   This training is for consumers of mental health services in Florida who have an interest in peer support. Training class size is limited to 20 persons.

 

Date, Time & Location: February 25 – March 1. Each training day begins promptly at 9:00am and ends at 5:00pm. Training is at First Step of Sarasota, 1750 17th St., Bldg J-1, Sarasota, 34234.

 

Cost:  The training and all training materials are free of charge thanks to the generous sponsorship of Central Florida Behavioral Network. Meals and transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

 

Deadline:  The deadline for all application materials is midnight on February 13, 2013. This is the first step toward being admitted as a participant to the training.

phone interview that will be held and then a decision will be made concerning registering you to attend the course. Applications received after this date will be handled on a first come first serve basis as space permits.
Application: Those wishing to participate should complete and return the Application Form. • Candidates must be a true peer; this means that the candidate is also a consumer of public or private mental health services.
• Applicants must hold a GED or High School diploma and be at least 18 years of age.
• Applicants must demonstrate strong reading comprehension and written communication skills.
• Applicants must be well grounded in recovery with at least one year between diagnosis and application to the training.
